Replacing a RAID Controller Card of a TaiShan 2280 12-Slot Node or TaiShan 5280 36-Slot Node

A RAID controller card supports RAID levels, RAID level migration, and RAID configuration memory.

Impact on the System

Before replacing a RAID controller card on a storage node, you must power off the node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node.

Prerequisites

  • A spare RAID controller card is ready.
  • The faulty RAID controller card has been located.

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Replacement Process

Replace a RAID controller card by following the process shown in Figure 18-18.

Procedure

  1. Remove the storage node from its cabinet and remove the chassis cover. For details, see Basic Operations.
  2. Remove the air duct.

    Lift the air duct according to the signs on the air duct, as shown in the following figures.

  3. Remove the RAID controller card.

    1. Press and hold down the latches on the RAID controller card cable connectors and pull out the cables.
    2. Unscrew the RAID controller card, as shown in step 1 in Figure 18-21.

    3. Slowly lift the RAID controller card upwards away from the connector on the mainboard, as shown in step 2 in Figure 18-21.

  4. Place the removed RAID controller card in an ESD bag.
  5. Take the spare RAID controller card out of its ESD bag.
  6. Install the RAID controller card.

    1. Remove any rubber plugs from the ports on the RAID controller card, as shown in Figure 18-22.

    2. Align the connectors on the RAID controller card with the ports on the mainboard, and insert the RAID controller card slowly into the mainboard, as shown in step 1 in Figure 18-23.

    3. Screw the RAID controller card, as shown in step 2 in Figure 18-23.
    4. Connect the cables for the RAID controller card.

  7. Install the air duct.

    Align the positioning pins on the air duct with the fixing holes on the mainboard according to the instructions on the chassis, and vertically place the air duct downwards, as shown in the following figures.

  8. Install the chassis cover and put the storage node into the cabinet. For details, see Basic Operations.
  9. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and KVM according to the cable connection labels. Do not connect network cables. Then power on the storage node. If the storage node is not powered on, press the power button on the front panel.
  10. Use the KVM to log in to the storage node as user root.
  11. Import the original RAID information.

    1. Log in to the management interface.
      1. When the screen shown in Figure 18-26 is displayed during the system startup, press F11.

        NOTE:

        If a dialog box that informs you of entering the password is displayed, enter the BIOS password (default: Huawei12#$).

      2. The BIOS interface of the RAID controller card is displayed, as shown in Figure 18-27.

      3. Select Device Manager and press Enter. The screen shown in Figure 18-28 is displayed.

      4. On the Device Manager page, select the LSI SAS3008 controller to be operated, and press Enter. The screen shown in Figure 18-29 is displayed.

      5. Press Enter. The main interface shown in Figure 18-30 is displayed.

    2. Import external configurations.
      1. On the main interface of the RAID controller card, select Controller Management and press Enter. Select Manage Foreign Configuration and press Enter. The external configuration management page is displayed, as shown in Figure 18-31.

      2. Select Select Foreign Configuration and press Enter. In the displayed list, select the external configuration to be imported and press Enter. Select View Foreign Configuration and press Enter. The page for viewing external configurations is displayed, as shown in Figure 18-32.

      3. Select Import Foreign Configuration and press Enter. The operation confirmation page is displayed, as shown in Figure 18-33.

      4. Select Confirm and press Enter. Use and to select Yes and press Enter.
      5. When Operation completed successfully is displayed, press Esc. The configuration is complete.

  12. Connect the signal cables between the storage node and external devices according to the labels. Then, restart the storage node.
  13. Check the system status.

    On SmartKit, choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection and check the system status.
    • If all inspection items pass the inspection, the inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail, the inspection fails. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. Perform inspection again after fault rectification. If the inspection still fails, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

Label the replaced RAID controller card to facilitate subsequent operations.
