Introduction to the Management Platform

Users can query, set, manage, and maintain the storage system on DeviceManager and the CLI. Serviceability management tools, such as SmartKit and eService Client, can improve O&M efficiency.

The O&M management software helps administrators manage and monitor the storage system. Table 2-1 describes the common software and functions in the management storage system.

Management Software

Description

DeviceManager

Integrated with the storage system to provide GUI-based management, including resource allocation, resource protection setting, user management, device performance monitoring, and alarm management for the storage system.

CLI

Integrated with the storage system to provide command lines to manage and maintain the storage system.

SmartKit

Unified desktop management platform for all IT tools. After installing SmartKit, you can perform routine maintenance on the storage system.

eService Client

The eService client provides the alarm reporting function to upload device fault information and logs to the eService cloud system, and provides intelligent fault reporting and real-time health analysis services based on AI technologies, reducing device running risks and operating costs. To deploy eService services, the customer must install the eService client that provides alarm reporting and other remote service functions.

Introduction to DeviceManager

DeviceManager is an integrated storage management software developed by Huawei. It enables you to easily configure, manage, and maintain storage devices.

Figure 2-1 shows the GUI of DeviceManager.

Alarm, Recent Tasks, system, Help, and language

Alarm displays the number of alarms by severity and helps users learn about the running status of the system. Recent Tasks helps users understand the tasks that have been completed or have not been completed recently. The system, Help, and language lists the system setting buttons, help buttons, and language buttons for users to perform operations.

Log Out

The Log Out button is available for users to log out of the system.

Information display area

The information display area displays details about each functional module of the storage system.

Introduction to CLI

Command Line Interface (CLI) provides command lines to manage and maintain the storage system. The configuration commands are entered through a keyboard and compiled and executed by programs. The command output is displayed in text or graphic format on the CLI. Figure 2-2 shows the CLI.

Introduction to SmartKit

SmartKit is a desktop management platform on which all IT tools can be managed in a unified manner. It provides various tools for deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of IT devices. Figure 2-3 shows the GUI of SmartKit.

Introduction to eService

The eService cloud intelligent management system (eService for short) integrates the cloud management, remote maintenance, automatic service request (SR) creation, and prediction and prevention functions to improve user O&M capabilities and takes planned maintenance actions to prevent potential risks.

eService enables the client to work with the cloud system.

  • eService client: It is deployed on the customer side.

    The eService client collects customer device alarms and sends them to the eService cloud system in a timely manner. In addition, it imports plug-ins or interconnects with other systems to implement remote maintenance functions, such as remote inspection and remote log collection.

  • eService cloud system: It is deployed in Huawei technical support center.

    The eService cloud system receives device alarms from the eService client in 24/7 mode, automatically notifies Huawei technical support personnel to handle the alarms in a timely manner, and supports automatic inspection and log collection for devices on the customer side.

Settings and help area

  • This functional area enables you to manage device information by setting customer information, mailboxes, log dumping, and automatic eService startup. The alarm information will be sent to maintenance personnel to locate faults, facilitating real-time troubleshooting.
  • By clicking these buttons, you can view help documents and eService copyright and select a desired language.

Menu bar

Devices: You can add, modify, and remove devices, and manage reported alarms of existing devices. Adding devices in batches is supported.

Function pane

The function pane displays all function modules of eService.

Status bar

The status bar shows where the current operation is located.

Introduction to eSight

eSight is an integrated convergent O&M management solution oriented to enterprise data centers, campus/branch networks, unified communications, video conferencing, and video surveillance. It provides automatic configuration and deployment, visualized fault diagnosis, and intelligent capacity analysis functions for enterprise ICT devices.

eSight is mainly applied to scenarios such as the convergent operation and maintenance of data centers, intelligent operation and maintenance of Safe City projects, and WLAN full-life cycle management. eSight can improve the efficiency of enterprise OM, lower O&M costs, enhance resource utilization, and ensure the enterprise ICT system stability.
