Viewing the System Capacity Trend

You can learn about the capacity usage of the storage system by viewing the system capacity trend.

Context

The following indicators are used to measure the performance of a storage system:

  • IOPS is a performance indicator that indicates the number of processed I/Os per second. IOPS is used to measure I/O processing capabilities of storage systems. IOPS can also be used to measure system performance in application scenarios where services, such as the database online transaction processing (OLTP) service and SPC-1 authentication are used.
  • Bandwidth is a performance indicator that indicates the amount of data that can be processed by storage per second, and the basic unit is Mbit/s or Gbit/s. The bandwidth is used to measure storage system throughput. The bandwidth can also be used to measure system performance in application scenarios where services, such as database online analytical processing (OLAP), media asset, and video surveillance services are used.
  • Latency is a performance indicator that indicates the time duration from an I/O request being initiated to the I/O request being processed. The basic unit is ms. Common indicators include average response time and maximum response time. For example, the latency of database OLTP service must be less than 10 ms and that for the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) scenario must be less than 30 ms. The latency requirements of the video on demand (VOD) and video surveillance services vary with bit rates.
NOTE:
  • In application scenarios where the I/O is less than 64 KB, IOPS is the main performance indicator of storage systems.
  • In application scenarios where the I/O is equal to or greater than 64 KB, bandwidth is the main performance indicator of storage systems.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Monitor > Capacity Trend.
  3. View the capacity trend of the storage system.

    NOTE:
    • You can view trend charts of different capacity parameters by clicking the corresponding icons.
    • Trend charts are generated the next day after creation.
