Managing Users and Access Rights

This section describes how to create and manage users and roles. Users of different levels have different operation rights on the storage system. This ensures service system stability and service data security.

Creating a User Account

This operation enables you to create a user account to manage the storage system or resources based on the granted permissions.

Context

Only super administrators can create a user account.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Click Add.

    The Add User page is displayed.

    NOTE:

    Based on specific service requirements, the super administrator can create different levels of user accounts to grant them only necessary operation permissions, thereby ensuring system stability and data security.

  4. Set user information.

    Table 4-4 describes related parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Username

    Indicates the name of a user account to be created.

    NOTE:
    • A user name can contain a maximum of 32 characters. The minimum number of characters a user name can contain depends on Username Policy in Security Policies. For details, see Configuring Security Policies.
    • A user name can contain letters, digits, and underscores (_) and must start with a letter.
    • A user name must be unique.

      You can modify the user name policy in Security Policies.

    Password

    Indicates the password of a user account to be created.

    NOTE:
    • The maximum and minimum numbers of characters a password can contain depend on Password Policy in Security Policies. For details, see Configuring Security Policies.
    • A password must contain special characters, uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and digits. Special characters (!"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^`{_|}~ and space).
    • A password can contain a maximum of three consecutive identical characters.
    • A password must be different from the user name and its reverse.
    • You can modify the password policy in Security Policies.
    • Users must properly manage passwords to prevent disclosure.

    Confirm Password

    Confirms the password of a user account to be created. Confirm Password must be the same as Password.

    Role

    Indicates the role of a user account to be created.

  5. Click OK.

Changing the Password of a User

For security of a storage system, you are advised to periodically change the login password.

Context
  • The super administrator and administrators can only change their own passwords but cannot change the passwords of other users. The super administrator has the permission to initialize the password of a non-super administrator.
  • If your password has expired or been initialized, you will be prompted to change your password when logging in to DeviceManager.
  • If your password is about to expire, you will be prompted to change your password when logging in to DeviceManager.
  • To prevent security risks of the storage system due to password leakage, you need to modify the password upon initial login and periodically change the password.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user whose information you want to modify and click Modify.

    The Modify User page is displayed.

  4. To modify Password about the user account that is currently logged in, set Old Password, Password, and Confirm Password.
  5. Click OK.

    NOTE:
    • A password contains 8 to 16 characters.
    • A password must contain uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and special characters (!"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^`{_|}~ and space).
    • A password cannot contain 3 consecutive identical characters.
    • The password cannot be the same as the user name or user name in reverse order.
    • The password cannot be the same as the previous password.

Bringing Offline a User Account

This operation enables the super administrator to forcibly bring offline an unwanted user. Therefore, the desired user can no longer perform any operations on the device.

Context

Only a super administrator can forcibly log out a non-super-administrator user.

Prerequisites
  • You have logged in to DeviceManager as the super administrator (not a user account that you want to bring offline).
  • The Online/Offline status of the user account that you want to bring offline is Online.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user account that you want to bring offline and click Offline.
  4. Confirm your operation as prompted.

Removing a User Account

If you want to prevent a user from logging in to and managing a storage device, you can remove the desired user.

Context
  • Only a super administrator can forcibly remove a non-super-administrator user.
  • Online user accounts cannot be removed.
Prerequisites
  • You have logged in to DeviceManager as the super administrator (not a user account that you want to remove).
  • The Online/Offline status of the user to be removed is Offline.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user account that you want to remove and click Remove.
  4. Confirm your operation as prompted.

Locking a User Account

This operation enables you to lock a user account. After being locked, the user is restricted from logging in to the system.

Prerequisites
  • Only a super administrator can forcibly lock a non-super-administrator user.
  • Lock Status of the user account to be locked is Unlocked.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user account that you want to lock and click Lock.

Unlocking a User Account

This operation enables you to unlock a user account.

Prerequisites
  • Only a super administrator can forcibly unlock a non-super-administrator user.
  • Lock Status of the user account to be unlocked is Locked.
Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user account that you want to unlock and click Unlock.

    The Permission Authentication dialog box is displayed.

  4. Enter the password of the user account that is currently logged in and click OK.

Changing the Password Upon Next Login

This operation enables you to forcibly change a user password upon next login.

Context

Only super administrators can click Change Password Upon Next Login.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user account whose password is to be forcibly changed upon next login and click Change Password Upon Next Login.

Modifying the Password of a Non-super Administrator User

If a non-super administrator forgets the login password, the super administrator has the permission to modify the password on the system management page.

Context

Only the super administrator has the permission to initialize the password of a non-super administrator.

Procedure
  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  3. Select the user you want to modify and click Modify.

    The Modify User page is displayed.

  4. Set Role.
  5. Enable Initialize password and set Password of Current User, Password, and Confirm Password. Click OK.
  6. Confirm your operation as prompted.

Viewing the Information of All Users

This operation enables you to view the information of all users on the system management page.

Prerequisites

You have logged in to DeviceManager as the super administrator.

Procedure
  1. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > User Management.
  2. In the middle function pane, view user information.

    Table 4-5 describes related parameters.

    Indicates a user name.

    Online/Offline

    Indicates the status of a user account in DeviceManager. Possible values are Online and Offline.

    Password Status

    Indicates the password status of a user account.

    Indicates the time when a user account was created.

    Role

    Indicates the role of a user account.

    NOTE:

    You can click next to Username and enter a user name to view its information.

Viewing the Roles of All Users

This operation enables you to view the roles of all users on the system management page.

Prerequisites

You have logged in to DeviceManager as the super administrator.

Procedure
  1. Choose Settings > User and Security > Users and Roles > Role Management.
  2. Click next to the role that you want to view. In the function pane, view role information.

    Table 4-6 describes related parameters.

    Indicates the objects under a role.

    Permission Group

    Indicates the permission groups under a role.

    Read/Write Permission

    Indicates the read and write permissions owned by a role. Possible values are Read-only and Read and write.

    You can click next to a parameter name and select or enter a value to view information that meets the parameter value.
