Typical Networking Modes

This section describes how to plan and use ports on switches during installation and deployment of FusionStorage OBS.

Figure 2-34 shows the networking mode.

The following uses six storage nodes as an example to describe the physical connection rules of switches.

Front-end 25GE Networking and Back-end 25GE Networking

Figure 2-35 describes port planning of switches shared by the front end and back end.

  • Storage node ports

    Each switch uses twelve 25GE ports to connect to storage nodes in sequence.

  • Aggregation ports

    Each switch uses four 100GE ports to connect to the aggregation switch.

  • Stacking ports

    The two switches are stacked using two 100GE ports for each.

  • Reserved ports

    To prevent impact on other ports, you are advised to run the shutdown command to disable the reserved ports. For details about the shutdown command, refer to the related switch documentation.

Figure 2-36 shows an example of BMC switch port planning.

  • Mgmt ports

    Six GE ports connect to the Mgmt ports on each storage node.

  • Aggregation ports

    Two 10GE ports connect to the aggregation switch.

  • Reserved ports

    To prevent impact on other ports, you are advised to run the shutdown command to disable the reserved ports. For details about the shutdown command, refer to the related switch documentation.

  • NIC ports

    Six GE ports connect to the NIC ports on each storage node.

  • Switch management ports

    Connect to the ETH management network port of each BMC switch and switch shared by the front and back ends.

  • Aggregation ports

    Two 10GE ports connect to the aggregation switch.

  • Reserved ports

    To prevent impact on other ports, you are advised to run the shutdown command to disable the reserved ports. For details about the shutdown command, refer to the related switch documentation.
