Checking Power Cables and PGND Cables

After installing all power cables and PGND cables, check whether they work properly.

Prerequisites

  • The PGND cables and power cables of cabinets have been installed.
  • The PGND cables and power cables of intra-cabinet components have been installed.
  • Required tools and materials have been prepared, including:
    • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
    • Multimeter

Procedure

  1. Check exteriors of power cables and PGND cables.

    • Cable colors meet customer requirements.
    • The diameters of power cables, PGND cables, and equipotential cables connected between cabinets meet power distribution requirements.
    • The crimping terminals are welded or crimped firmly.
    • The bare wires of the wiring terminals and the OT terminal handles are wrapped with PVC insulation tapes or covered with heat-shrinkable tubes.

  2. Check the layout of power cables and PGND cables.

    • Power cables, PGND cables, and signal cables of a cabinet are routed separately with a proper distance (larger than 3 cm).
    • When connected to a PDB, cables have their redundant parts cut off, not coiled up.

  3. Check cabling of power cables and PGND cables.

    • Cables are routed properly based on engineering design documents to facilitate future maintenance and capacity expansion.
    • Cables are routed smoothly and bundled neatly.
    • If routed underfloor, cables are led down from a cabinet side.
    • Cable turns are smooth. Proper protection measures are adopted when cables are fixed to components with edges and corners.

  4. Check whether power cables and PGND cables are correctly and reliably connected.

    • Cabinets support 1+1 power supply protection. For the purpose of device security, if a node has two power modules, you are advised to connect the node to different power supply planes during engineering implementation. If both the primary and secondary switches have only one power module, you are advised to connect the switches to different power supply planes.
    NOTE:

    A cabinet is equipped with dual power inputs, and each input is provided by an independent power network.

    • Flat washers and spring washers for a terminal are installed in correct order (flat washer before spring washer).
    • When two or more cables are installed to one binding post, the larger OT terminal is put under the smaller one. Two OT terminals cross each other at 60º, or each one bends 45º or 90º. OT terminals are not overlapped. See Figure 11-2.

  5. Check whether PGND cables of cabinet doors are correctly and reliably connected.
  6. Check whether devices are reliably grounded.

    1. Check whether cabinets are reliably grounded.
      • Device PGNDs are connected to a DC ground bar if it is provided.
      • If the DC ground bar is not provided and the ground body is not allowed, devices are grounded through the PE cable of the AC power supply.
    2. Check whether all intra-cabinet devices are correctly and reliably grounded.

  7. Cable labels are correctly filled in, firmly attached, orderly arranged, and uniformly oriented.

    Typically, you are advised to attach a label to the position 2 cm from the connector. Labels can be made in a unified manner according to customer requirements.
