Powering On Devices

Powering On Devices

After all devices are installed, power them on and check whether they work properly. Power on the cabinet before powering on intra-cabinet components in sequence.

  • Hardware installation check has been completed and no problem has been found.
  • The PDB or PDU switch is set to OFF.
  • The switches of all intra-cabinet components are set to OFF.
  • All boards in nodes have been installed.
  • Required tools and materials have been prepared, including a multimeter.

Do not wear an ESD wrist strap during the power-on process to avoid an electric shock.

  1. Turn on the power switches of the PDC.

    1. On the cabinet side, verify that all PDB circuit breakers or PDU power switches have been turned off.
    2. On the PDC side, a professional from the customer turns on the power switches of all cabinets in sequence.
    3. On the cabinet side, verify that the PDB or PDU input voltage (output voltage from the PDC to the PDB or PDU) is within the rated voltage range using the multimeter.

The maximum input voltage of the PDU is from 176 V AC to 276 V AC.

  2. Turn on power switches of the PDB or PDU.

    1. Turn on PDB circuit breakers or PDU power switches one by one.
    2. Once you turn on a switch, measure the output end of the PDB and verify that the output voltage stays in safe range.

After the power module is connected to an external power supply, the storage node automatically starts working upon power-on. If the storage node is set to not start working upon power-on, you need to manually turn on the storage node by pressing the power button on the front panel of the storage node.

Do not turn on all switches at a time, which may generate excessive transient current to damage power supply devices.

Turn on power switches one by one. For details about power switch positions, see Common Hardware Information.

Table 13-1 describes the sequence of powering on devices.

  3. Verify device status.

    1. Observe device fans. Verify that all fans drop from full speed down to even speed. No abnormal noise is generated, and strong air current is dissipating from the air vent at the back of the device.
    2. Observe indicators on a device panel and verify that the device is working properly.

For details about indicator positions, meanings, and abnormal status, see Common Hardware Information.

If any indicator is abnormal, contact Huawei technical support.
