Engineering Labels for Power Cables

This section describes the meaning of engineering labels attached to power cables.

Engineering Labels for AC Power Cables
  • Labels of this type are attached to AC power cables, including POWER, BGND, and PGND.
  • They are attached to both ends of AC power cables and only to one side of the sign plate of the cable tie.
  • The three core wires (220 V, working ground, and PGND) of a 220 V AC power cable are all covered with insulation sheaths. Therefore, each power cable requires a label only marked with AC and cabinet ID (the same for the 110 V cable and other cables).

Table 14-59 describes the label that is attached to an AC power cable.

MN: cabinet ID or position number of power input (socket)

  • At the power socket side: indicates the cabinet ID.
  • At the loaded cabinet side: indicates the position number of power input (socket). A label must clearly identify the device position. If capable of being classified into rows and columns, positions of sockets can be marked by the same method as that marking labels at the loaded cabinet side. If incapable of being classified into rows and columns, positions of sockets must be specified to avoid confusion.

A label contains information about the position of the peer end of a cable (what TO: means). The label for the local end can be omitted, because the local end position has been known. Only information about peer end devices, such as a control cabinet or a cable distribution box, needs to be filled on the label.

Notice directions when attaching a label: The side of the cable tie, attached with a label, faces outside; characters on labels attached to cables in the same cabinet face the same direction, as shown in Figure 14-94.

1. The label attached on a cable at the loaded cabinet side

Indicates the position of the PDC to which the cable is connected.

2. The label attached on a cable at the PDC side

Indicates the position of the loaded cabinet to which the cable is connected.

  • The label on the cable at the loaded cabinet side is marked A01-AC. It indicates that the power cable is connected to the power socket at row A and column 01 in the equipment room.
  • The label on the cable at the PDC side is marked B01-AC. It indicates that the power cable is connected to the loaded cabinet at row B and column 01 in the equipment room.

Engineering Labels for Network Cables

This section describes the meaning of engineering labels attached to network cables.

  • Applicable scope

    Shielded or unshielded network cables connected to network ports on the subrack board of a cabinet

  • Meaning of label content

    Table 14-60 describes two sides of a label attached to a network cable.

  • If a network cable is connected to a network management system (NMS), mark the position where the NMS is located.

  • A01-03- -05 indicates that one end of the network cable is connected to network port 05 on subrack 03 in the cabinet in row A, column 01 in the equipment room. No slot number is specified.
  • B02-03- -12 indicates that the other end of the network cable is connected to network port 12 on subrack 03 in the cabinet in row B, column 02 in the equipment room. No slot number is specified.

Engineering Labels for Optical Fibers

This section describes the meaning of engineering labels attached to optical fibers.

  • Applicable scope

    Optical fibers connected to optical connectors on boards of cabinet subracks or case devices

    Optical fiber labels are classified into two types based on connection modes:

    • Labels attached to optical fibers that connect two devices
    • Labels attached to optical fibers that connect devices to optical distribution frames (ODFs)
  • Label for an optical fiber between devices

    Table 14-61 describes the label for an optical fiber connected between two devices.
