Installing Patches After Oracle Database Is Installed

Installing Patches After Oracle Database Is Installed

After the Oracle Database is installed and the database is created, install patches to fix bugs that are already known. You are advised to use the patch set that is one version earlier than the latest patch set. The latest patch set may contain new bugs, which cannot be solved until Oracle releases new patches for the bugs.

NOTE:

The Master Note for Database Proactive Patch Program (Doc ID 756671.1) describes the database proactive patch project and provides the PSU (Patch Set Update) information corresponding to each database version.

The following uses Oracle Database 12.1.0.2 as an example. Find Oracle document 2285559.1 on the MOS (My Oracle Support), which describes the proactive PSU for 12.1.0.2. The GI PSU package contains the patches for Oracle Database. Therefore, you can use the GI PSU package to install patches for Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Oracle Database.

Download the patch set corresponding to the current platform. Ignore the message indicating that the patch set has been replaced. View the readme file and install the patch set according to the description of the readme file.
