Configuring the Database

Configuring the Database

After the database is installed, you must set the SGA size and PGA size to proper values. The following example describes how to modify the SGA size and PGA size.

Set the SGA size and PGA size to the values calculated in Oracle RAC Node Memory Plan.

  • Modify the SGA size:
    NOTE:

    The value of sga_max_size must be greater than or equal to that of sga_target. Log in to the database and run the following SQL commands to adjust the SGA size: Run the sqlplus / as sysdba command to open the CLI. If PDBs are created, run the show pdbs command to view the existing the PBDs, run the alter session set container=PDB name command to switch to the PDB. After that, run the following commands:

    SQL> alter system set sga_max_size=300G scope=spfile;

    System altered.

    SQL> alter system set sga_target=300G scope=spfile;

    System altered.

    SQL> shutdown immediate

    SQL> startup

    ————————————————
  • Modify the PGA size:

    According to the official requirements by Oracle, the value of pga_aggregate_limit must be greater than or equal to that of pga_aggregate_target.

    SQL> show parameter pga

    NAME                                 TYPE
    ------------------------------------ ----------------------
    VALUE
    ------------------------------
    pga_aggregate_limit                  big integer
    40G
    pga_aggregate_target                 big integer
    20G
    SQL> alter system set pga_aggregate_target=25G scope=spfile;

    System altered.

    SQL> alter system set pga_aggregate_limit=50G scope=spfile;

    System altered.

    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup
