Placing a Call

You can place a call from your endpoint to start a conference.

Point-to-Point Conference

  1. Choose Conference > Call.
  2. Select remote sites you want to call using either of the following methods:
    • Click Call Logs and select the remote sites.
    • Enter the name, number, or IP address of each remote site.

    NOTE:
    You can also place calls from the Address Book page. For details, see Placing a Call.

  3. Set the site parameters, listed in Table 2-1.

    Parameter

    Description

    Setting

    Site name/IP address/Number

    Specifies the name, number, or IP address of the site you want to call.

    No default value is set for this parameter.

    Line type

    Specifies the type of the line used to place the call.

    By default, the last used line type is displayed.

    NOTE:

    If Line type is set to H.323 PHONE, set Rate to 64kbps.

    Rate

    Specifies the data transmission rate required.

    The data transmission rates supported by your endpoint vary depending on the type of site you want to call.

    The default value is 1920 kbps.

    Select the highest available data transmission rate.

    NOTE:

    If this parameter is set incorrectly, the video quality will be affected or the call might even fail to be set up.

    Call Mode

    Specifies the call type.

    • Video: Place video calls
    • Voice: Place audio-only calls

    This parameter is available only when Line type is set to Auto or SIP.

    The default value is Video.

    Advanced Settings

    Specify advanced conference parameters. For the description of each advanced conference parameter, see Setting Advanced Conference Parameters.

  4. Click Call.

Multipoint Conference

  1. Choose Conference > Call.
  2. In the Site name/IP address/Number text box, enter conference access number, for example, 0755100000159. Click Call.
  3. Choose Conference > Second Dial. Then enter the conference password and press the pound button (#) as prompted.

    NOTE:
    Obtain the conference access number and password from the SMC 2.0 administrator. To join a conference that has a password, enter the password using the keypad.
