Configuring Spatial Multicast

Enable spatial multicast to implement multicast traffic replication on SFUs for different downstream outbound interfaces, reducing the bandwidth consumption of the upstream interface boards.

Context

NOTE:
  • Only the NE40E-X8, NE40E-X16, NE40E-X8A and NE40E-X16A support spatial multicast.
  • Spatial multicast may cause packet loss during traffic forwarding.
  • This configuration is supported only on the Admin VS.

Perform the following steps on the router:

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run spatial-multicast

    The spatial multicast view is displayed.

  3. Run spatial-multicast slot { slot-id1 [ to slot-id2 ] } &<1~10>

    Spatial multicast is enabled for the boards in the specified slots.

  4. Run either of the following commands based on the traffic type:

    • For Layer 2 flows, run the spatial-multicast { vlan vlan-id | vsi vsi-name }[ group-address mask group-mask [ source-address ] ] bandwidth bandwidth command to set the bandwidth based on which load balancing is performed for the flows.

    • For Layer 3 flows, run the spatial-multicast [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] group-address mask group-mask [ source-address ] bandwidth bandwidth command to set the bandwidth based on which load balancing is performed for the flows.

  5. Run spatial-multicast { p2mp-te | mldp } bandwidth bandwidth-value

    The bandwidth based on which load balancing is performed for P2MP TE or mLDP flows is set.

    To better balance traffic, setting bandwidth-value to a value same as or approximate to the actual traffic is recommended. The bandwidth specified in this command does not mean the actual bandwidth available to a flow. The actual forwarding capability depends on the service and board forwarding capabilities. If the bandwidth specified in this command is much greater than the actual bandwidth, traffic may not be evenly balanced.

  6. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Checking the Configurations

After configuring multicast dual feed and selective receiving, check the configurations.

Run the display spatial-multicast channel bandwidth command to view each channel's bandwidth information of the SFUs.

Run the display spatial-multicast vlan vlan-id [ all | group-address [ source-address ] ] command to view the bandwidth based on which load balancing is performed for the Layer 2 multicast flow with the group address 225.0.0.1 in VLAN 1.
