VPN QoS Overview

VPN QoS is a mechanism that ensures each type of traffic gets the specified bandwidth by means of bandwidth restriction and queue scheduling. VPN QoS ensures different types of traffic to be scheduled based on service classes, enabling VIP traffic to be preferentially transmitted during traffic congestion.


On the network shown in Figure 12-1, a TE tunnel is established between PE1 and PE2.

The data traffic exchanged between PE1 and PE2 includes:

  • Traffic transmitted over the tunnel
    • VPN traffic (traffic on VPN1 to VPNN)

    • Non-VPN traffic

  • Traffic not transmitted over the tunnel

Bandwidth preemption is likely to occur among different types of traffic.

To ensure service quality, configure bandwidth restriction to ensure that each type of traffic gets the specified bandwidth.
