Application Scenarios for Telnet
Telnet
Telnet in the HUAWEI NetEngine40E
The NE40E covers the following Telnet services:
Telnet server
You can run the Telnet client application on a PC to log in to and manage a NE40E.
Telnet client
After running the emulation terminal program or Telnet client application on a PC to set up a connection with a NE40E, you can run the telnet command to log in to and manage other devices. In the scenario shown in Figure 3-2, Device A acts as both a Telnet server and client.
Telnet applies to remote login. You can use Telnet to configure, monitor, and maintain remote or local devices.
As shown in Figure 3-3, you can use Telnet on Device A to remotely log in to Device B.
Telnet Redirection Login to Another Device
On the network shown in Figure 3-4, there is a reachable route between the PC and Device A but no IP network connection between the PC and Device B. To remotely manage Device B, connect Device A's asynchronous port to Device B's console port, enable Telnet redirection on Device A, and use a specified port on the PC to remotely log in to Device B for management.
