Application layer association associates the enabled and disabled status of control protocols and the status of the forwarding engine at the lower layer. Application layer association associates the control layer and the bottom layer and keeps the status of their protocols consistent. If the protocol of a service is disabled on the device, the bottom layer sends the corresponding protocol packets with a small bandwidth or even does not send these packets. In this manner, the attack range is minimized, the difficulty in launching attacks is increased, and device security is enhanced.

Take the BGP service for example. If NE40E is not configured with the BGP service, BGP packets that are already sent to the CPU are discarded. Through application layer association, BGP packets are discarded by the NP based on configurations on the service layer. In this manner, the CPU is free from overload.
