Overview of 802.1X Access

Overview of 802.1X Access

802.1X port-based authentication uses the IEEE 802.1X standard (802.1X for short) to control the access rights of users or access ports. Users or devices must pass 802.1X authentication before they can access the network.

802.1X port-based authentication is mainly used to authenticate WLAN users as well as to authenticate wired LAN users who access the network through the 802.1X dialers. It allows only authorized users or devices to access the network, protecting network security.

802.1X port-based authentication offers the following benefit to carriers:

  • Reduces the operation cost.
  • Provides a more secure access authentication and control mode.
