Data Plane for IP RAN Virtual Cluster Access

Services between a master and an AP are carried in PW+LSP mode, regardless of whether which services are carried on the access ring, as shown in Figure 2-4.

For the aggregation ring, Ethernet services are carried over L3VPNs, and TDM/ATM services are carried over PWs.

From an end-to-end perspective, on a master:
  • The PW on the access ring is connected to the L3VPN on the aggregation ring to implement end-to-end Ethernet service bearing.
  • The PWs on the access and aggregation rings are connected together to form an MS-PW to implement end-to-end TDM/ATM service bearing.
The following describes end-to-end data encapsulation processes for different services.

In virtual cluster access, an LSP is also called a virtual path (VP), and a PW is also called a virtual circuit (VC).

End-to-End Data Encapsulation Process for Ethernet Services

As shown in Figure 2-5, the L2VPN+L3VPN solution is used for Ethernet services on the data plane. The L2VPN and L3VPN are deployed on the access and aggregation rings, respectively. The L2VPN accesses the L3VPN through the master.

End-to-End Data Encapsulation Process for ATM/TDM Services

As shown in Figure 2-6, the MS-PW solution is used for ATM/TDM services on the data plane. Two SS-PWs form an MS-PW on the master. An MS-PW is a set of two or more PW segments that are located between an AP and an RSG. A master connects the PW segments and swaps PW and tunnel labels.
