Replacing the DACS DMU

Installation Procedures

1. Wear the ESD wrist strap and connect the ground terminal to the ESD jack on the rack.

2. Remove the faulty DMU from the PDB.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the captive screws on the DMU counter-clockwise.
  • Pinch the handle on the panel of the DMU and remove the DMU from the PDB.
  • Label the removed DMU.

3. Insert a new DMU into the PDB.

  • Insert the DMU into the PDB horizontally.
  • Use the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the captive screws on the DMU clockwise.

4. Check whether the substitute DMU works properly.

After inserted into the PDB, the DMU starts communicating with the subrack automatically. The DMU is functioning properly if all the following conditions are true:

  • RUN: Device operating status indicator. The RUN indicator blinks green four times every second (4 Hz) on the PMU panel. After the board registers, the RUN indicator blinks once every two seconds (0.5 Hz).
  • ALM: The indicator is off. If the indicator is red, the PMU has an alarm generated. In this case, locate the fault.
  • The PMU has registered, and no PMU-related alarm is generated.

If the new DMU meets the preceding conditions, it works properly. If the new DMU fails to work properly, contact Huawei technical support personnel.

5. Perform follow-up operations.
  • Take off the ESD wrist strap and store it properly for future use.
  • If the replaced DMU is faulty, fill in a faulty board repair form.
  • Send the form and faulty power module to the local office of Huawei for repair.

Replacing AC/AC Power Modules of the DACS

Installation Procedures

1. Wear the ESD wrist strap and connect the ground terminal to the ESD jack on the rack.

2. Before removing the faulty AC/AC power module, unfasten the cable holder.

3. Remove a faulty power module from the PDB.
  • Hold the handle of the AC/AC power to pull it slowly out of the slot. During the pulling, do not touch the AC/AC power.
  • Attach a label with the fault, cabinet bar code, and site information to the removed power module.

4. Install the substitute power module in the PDB.

NOTE:
Ensure that the TOP mark of the AC/AC power module faces upward during the inserting. Replace the AC/AC power module with a substitute one. If multiple power modules need to be replaced, replace them one by one in ascending order of the slot.

5. Check whether the substitute power module works properly.

After inserted into the PDB, the power module starts communicating with the subrack automatically. The power module is functioning properly if all the following conditions are true. The status of the indicators on the AC/AC power module is as follows:

  • RUN/ALM: The indicator blinks green slowly.
  • INPUT A/ INPUT B: The indicator is steady green.
  • The fan module of the AC/AC power module is functioning properly.
  • No the AC/AC power module related alarm is generated on the host.

If the preceding conditions are true, the power module is functioning properly. If the power module fails to work properly, contact Huawei technical support personnel.

6. Perform follow-up operations.

  • Take off the ESD wrist strap and store it properly for future use.
  • If the replaced power module is faulty, fill in a faulty board repair form.

Send the form and faulty power module to the local office of Huawei for repair.

NOTE:
Replacing the AC/AC power modules does not require powering off the system. Power modules support hot swap. Replace a faulty module with a good module.
