(Optional) Configuring the LDP Split Horizon Policy

An LDP split horizon policy can be configured to prevent an LSR from distributing labels to a specified downstream LDP peer.

Context

An LSR by default distributes labels to both upstream and downstream LDP peers to speed up LDP LSP convergence. Digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) functioning as access devices on an MPLS network have low performance. All LDP peers (DSLAMs), also by default, exchange labels to establish a great number of LSPs. As a result, the DSLAMs are heavily burdened. An LDP split horizon policy can be configured to reduce the number of unwanted LSPs and use memory more efficiently.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run mpls ldp

    The MPLS-LDP view is displayed.

  3. Run outbound peer { peer-id | all } split-horizon

    A split horizon policy is configured for LDP peers. LSRs are disabled from distributing labels to specified downstream LDP peers.

  4. Run commit

    The configurations are committed.
