Perform one or more of the following configurations as required.

Configuring TCP Timers

You can control the TCP connection time by setting the SYN-Wait timer and FIN-Wait timer.

Context

Two TCP timers are available:

  • SYN-Wait timer: TCP starts the SYN-Wait timer when sending SYN packets. If no replies in response to SYN packets are received before the SYN-Wait timer expires, the TCP connection is terminated. The SYN-Wait timer ranges from 2 to 600 seconds, and the default value is 75 seconds.

  • FIN-Wait timer: When the TCP connection status turns from FIN_WAIT_1 to FIN_WAIT_2, the FIN-Wait timer starts. If no FIN packets are received before the FIN-Wait timer expires, the TCP connection is terminated. The FIN-Wait timer ranges from 76 to 3600 seconds, and the default value is 675 seconds.

Perform the following steps on the router:

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run tcp timer syn-timeout interval

    The SYN-Wait timer for setting up TCP connections is configured.

  3. Run tcp timer fin-timeout interval

    The FIN_WAIT_2 timer for setting up TCP connections is configured.

  4. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Specifying the Size of a TCP Sliding Window

By setting the sliding window size for TCP, you can set the sizes of the receiving buffer and transmitting buffer in the socket. This improves network performance.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run tcp window window-size

    The sending/receiving buffer size of the TCP socket is configured.

    The sliding window size ranges from 1 KB to 32 KB, and the default value is 8 KB.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Setting the MSS Value for a TCP Connection

The maximum MSS values can be configured for TCP connections.

Context

Setting a maximum MSS value for a TCP connection defines the largest TCP packet size, allowing TCP packets to be successfully forwarded by intermediate devices when no MTU is available.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run tcp max-mss mss-value

    The maximum MSS value is set for a TCP connection.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Verifying the TCP Configuration

After configuring TCP, verify the configuration.

Prerequisites

TCP has been configured.

Procedure

  • Run the display tcp status [ local-ip ipv4-address ] [ local-port local-port-number ] [ remote-ip ipv4-address ] [ remote-port remote-port-number ] [ cid cid ] [ socket-id socket-id ] command to check the TCP connection status.
  • Run the display tcp statistics command to check TCP traffic statistics.

Run the display tcp status command. The command output shows the TCP connection status.
