Placing a Call
You can place a call from your endpoint to start a conference.
Point-to-Point Conference
- Choose .
- Select remote sites you want to
call using either of the following methods:
- Click Call Logs and select the remote sites.
- Enter the name, number, or IP address of each remote site.
- Set the site parameters, listed in Table 4-1.

Site name/IP address/Number
Specifies the name, number, or IP address of the site you want to call.
To call a Cisco TelePresence site, you must set this parameter to the name of the Cisco TelePresence site.
Line type
Specifies the type of the line used to place the call.
To call a Microsoft Lync site, set this parameter to Auto or SIP.
By default, the last used line type is displayed.
Rate
Specifies the data transmission rate required.
The data transmission rates supported by your endpoint vary depending on the type of site you want to call.
Select the highest available data transmission rate.
NOTE:If this parameter is set incorrectly, the video quality will be affected or the call might even fail to be set up.
Call mode
Specifies the call type.
- Video: Place video calls
- Voice: Place audio-only calls
This parameter is available only when Line type is set to Auto or SIP.
The default value is Video.
Advanced Settings
Specify advanced conference parameters. For the description of each advanced conference parameter, see Setting Advanced Conference Parameters.

Multipoint Conference: Using the Built-in MCU
To initiate a multipoint conference using the built-in MCU, call the first site, and then add other sites one at a time.
Before using the built-in MCU, ensure that it is enabled.
For example, to use the built-in MCU of your endpoint (endpoint A) to initiate a conference that includes endpoints A, B, C, and D, perform the following steps:
- Choose .
- From endpoint A, follow 2 to 4 in the Point-to-Point Conference section to place a call to endpoints B, C one at a time, and D until all the calls are set up.
Third-Party Conference: Using the Second Voice Dialing Channel
If your endpoint does not provide a built-in MCU or the built-in MCU is disabled, you can enable the second voice dialing channel so the endpoint can simultaneously receive or place one video call and one audio call or two audio calls.
If the second voice dialing channel is being used by your endpoint, you cannot call two videoconferencing endpoints at the same time.
- Choose .
- From endpoint A, follow 2 to 4 in the Point-to-Point Conference section to place a call to the other two endpoints one at a time until all the calls are set up.
