This section provides an example on how to configure physical interfaces in flexible Ethernet (FlexE) mode and FlexE interfaces on devices that interconnect to each other using FlexE technology.

Networking Requirements

On the network shown in Figure 2-5, Device 1 and Device 2 communicate using the FlexE technology. Interface 0 is a physical interface, and interfaces numbered 1 to 4 are FlexE interfaces. Interfaces numbered 1 to 4 stand for different logical links.

NOTE:
In the following example, a 2x50G FPIC is used for configuration.

Precautions

When you configure a FlexE interface, ensure that:
  • The physical interfaces in FlexE mode on the interconnected devices must be added to FlexE groups with the same group ID.

  • The physical interfaces in FlexE mode must have the same PHY number configured.

  • A FlexE interface at the local end and its counterpart at the remote end must have the same bandwidth configured.

  • The FlexE interfaces must also have the same client ID configured.

Configuration Roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:
  1. Activate the interface basic license and FlexE license.
  2. Enable interfaces to work in FlexE mode.
  3. Create a FlexE group on the subcard.
  4. (Optional) Set the subcard's sub-timeslot granularity.
  5. (Optional) Set the rate configuration mode of the physical interfaces in FlexE mode to manual or optical mode auto-negotiation.
  6. Specify the phy-number parameter for the physical interfaces in FlexE mode.
  7. Add the physical interfaces in FlexE mode to the FlexE group.
  8. Specify bandwidth for FlexE interfaces.
  9. Specify the client id parameter for the FlexE interfaces.

Procedure

  1. Activate the interface basic license and FlexE license.
