Configuring Interworking Between LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS

To enable an LDP VPLS network to communicate with a BGP VPLS network, configure interworking between LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS.

Context

LDP VPLS uses LDP signaling packets that carry the FEC 128 TLV to establish and maintain PWs after VPLS members are manually specified. BGP VPLS uses BGP to automatically discover VPLS members and BGP signaling packets to establish and maintain PWs. LDP VPLS applies to VPLS networks with few sites, whereas BGP VPLS applies to VPLS networks with large numbers of sites. For carriers with both LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS networks, interworking between LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS enables them to improve VPLS network expansibility and reduce network operation costs.

On the network shown in Figure 9-11, an LDP VPLS network is deployed between PE1 and the SPE, and a BGP VPLS network is deployed among the SPE, PE2, and PE3. To enable CE1, CE2, and CE3 to communicate, configure interworking between LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS.

Procedure

  1. Configure LDP VPLS on PE1. For configuration details, see Configuring LDP VPLS.
  2. Perform the following configurations on the SPE:

    NOTE:

    On the SPE, LDP VPLS and BGP VPLS must be configured in the same VSI.

  3. Configure BGP VPLS on PE2. For configuration details, see Configuring BGP VPLS.
  4. Configure BGP VPLS on PE3. For configuration details, see Configuring BGP VPLS.
  5. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
