Configuring Carrier's Carrier (Solution 2)

Configuring Carrier's Carrier (Solution 2)

After establishing the LDP LSP for labeled BGP routes of the public network, you can enable the second carrier to provide BGP/MPLS IP VPN services, without the need to establish the IBGP peer relationship in the second carrier's network.

Usage Scenario

If a user of a BGP/MPLS IP VPN is actually another service provider, who offers BGP/MPLS IP VPN services to its clients, the function of carrier's carrier can be applied.

Two solutions can be adopted to realize carrier's carrier.

  • Solution 1: Establish the IBGP peer relationship between the CE of the Level 1 carrier and the PE of the Level 2 carrier. In this manner, a complete tunnel of public network can be established between PEs of the Level 2 carriers.
  • Solution 2: The IBGP peer relationship between the CE of the Level 1 carrier and the PE of the Level 2 carrier is not needed. After learning the labeled BGP routes of the public network from the Level 1 carrier, the Level 2 carrier can import these BGP routes to IGP to trigger LDP to distribute labels for these routes. In this manner, a complete LDP LSP can be established between PEs of the Level 2 carriers.

Solution 2 is described here.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring carrier's carrier, complete the following tasks:

  • Configuring IGP for the MPLS backbone network of the Level 1 carrier to realize IP connectivity in the backbone network
  • Configuring basic MPLS functions and MPLS LDP for the MPLS backbone network of the Level 1 carrier
  • Establishing MP-IBGP connections between PEs of the Level 1 carrier.
  • Configuring IGP in the IP network or MPLS network of the Level 2 carrier to realize the IP connectivity in the network
  • Configuring basic MPLS functions and MPLS LDP for the network of the Level 2 carrier and establishing LSP if the Level 2 carrier provides BGP/MPLS IP VPN service

Configuration Procedures

Perform one or more of the following configurations as required.
