Loop Detection Usage Scenarios Supported by the NE

Loop Detection Usage Scenarios Supported by the NE

On the networks shown in Figure 12-2 and Figure 12-3, the customer network accesses the VPLS/VLL network over redundant links to prevent single points of failure from affecting services.Figure 12-1 shows a physical interface self-loopback scenario. Such a scenario is irrelevant to services. The system considers that a loop occurs and reports a loop alarm when packets sent by a physical interface are received by the interface itself.

Figure 12-2 Networking in which a CE is single-homed to a PE on a VPLS/VLL network over redundant links

Figure 12-3 Networking in which a customer network is dual-homed to two PEs on a VPLS/VLL network

Loop detection enabled periodically send specially constructed Loop detection packets to detect loops. If a malicious attacker sends the Loop detection packets obtained from an NE back to the NE, the NE will mistakenly determine that a loop has occurred. It is recommended that you disable Loop detection on properly operating NEs. If you have to use Loop detection to detect whether links operate properly during site deployment, be sure to disable this function after this stage.
