If the length of an encapsulated packet that enters an IPv6 GRE tunnel is greater than the interface MTU, the packet is not fragmented and is discarded.

Check the IPv6 MTU of the forwarding interfaces on intermediate nodes on an IPv6 GRE tunnel and ensure that the IPv6 MTU is not less than 1332,

The packet is dropped.

If the length of an IPv6 packet transmitted over an IPv4 GRE tunnel is greater than the interface MTU, the packet is not fragmented and is discarded.

  • Do not enable PATH MTU for the IPv4 GRE tunnel.
  • If path MTU is enabled for the IPv4 GRE tunnel and IPv6 packets are transmitted over the tunnel, check the IPv4 MTU of the forwarding interfaces on intermediate nodes on an IPv4 GRE tunnel and ensure that the IPv4 MTU is not less than 1332,
