Configuring Auto Loop Detection

Configuring Auto Loop Detection

You can configure Auto loop detection on the PEs to avoid broadcast storms on a VPLS/VLL network.

Usage Scenario

If a CE is single-homed to a PE on a VPLS/VLL network over redundant links or a customer network is dual-homed to two PEs on a VPLS/VLL network, you can configure Auto loop detection to prevent broadcast storms on the VPLS/VLL network. Figure 12-4 and Figure 12-5 show the typical usage scenarios of Auto loop detection.

Auto loop detection enabled periodically send specially constructed loop detection packets to detect loops. If a malicious attacker sends the loop detection packets obtained from an NE back to the NE, the NE will mistakenly determine that a loop has occurred. It is recommended that you disable Auto loop detection on properly operating NEs. If you have to use Auto loop detection to detect whether links operate properly during site deployment, be sure to disable this function after this stage.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring Auto loop detection, ensure that the CEs can communicate.
