VPWS in CCC Mode

VPWS in CCC mode is a type of manually configured L2VPN. The CCC mode applies to a small MPLS network that has a simple topology and requires the manual configuration of the administrator. No control packets need to be transmitted, and no signaling negotiation is required. VPWS in CCC mode consumes only a few resources and is easy to configure, but is inconvenient to maintain and expand.

Figure 6-3 shows the network topology of VPWS in local CCC mode.

On the network shown in Figure 6-3, Site 1 and Site 2 of VPN1 are connected over a VPWS connection in local CCC mode (as indicated by the black dashed line). PE2 functions as a Layer 2 switch. No label switched path (LSP) is needed between the CEs. Data of different link encapsulation types, such as VLAN, Ethernet, and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), can be directly exchanged between the two sites.

The advantage of the CCC mode is that no label signaling is needed to transmit L2VPN information, so long as the Internet service provider (ISP) network supports MPLS forwarding. In addition, QoS can be guaranteed because the LSP in MPLS L2VPN in CCC mode is private.
