Checking the Client Scan Policy

Verify that the client scan policy is appropriate and is free from tampering.

Logging In to the Web Console

Before checking the scan policy, log in to the OfficeScan Web Console.

The operation procedure is as follows:

  1. Click Start. Then click on the Start page.
  2. Choose Trend Micro OfficeScan Server > Officescan Web Console (HTML) to access the OfficeScan Web Console login page.
  3. Enter the user name and the login password. The login password is set during OfficeScan server installation.
  4. Click Log on.

Configuring the Manual Scan Policy

When you click Settings > Scan Settings > Manual Scan Settings page on the OfficeScan client, the OfficeScan performs a manual scanning task.

The operation procedure is as follows:

  1. Choose Agents > Agent Management > Settings > Scan Settings > Manual Scan Settings.

    The Manual Scan Settings window is displayed.

  2. Check settings in the Manual Scan Settings window.

    If a scan policy parameter is set incorrectly or is tampered with, adjust it.

  3. Click Apply to All Clients.

    The message "Configuration changes have been applied." is displayed.

  4. Click Close.

Configuring the Real-Time Scan Policy

If real-time scan is enabled (the Enable virus/malware scan check box is selected in the Real-time Scan Settings window), the OfficeScan client scans files according to the scan policy during file receiving, opening, download, copy, and modification.

  • If no risk is detected, the file remains in the original path, and users can continue to access the file.
  • If a security risk, possible virus, or malicious software component is detected, the OfficeScan client notifies users of the infected files and specific security risks and moves the infected files to quarantine.

To ensure proper UC running, do not enable the real-time scan policy. That is, deselect the Enable virus/malware scan check box.

To enable real-time scan, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose Agents > Agent Management > Settings > Scan Settings > Real-time Scan Settings.

    The Real-time Scan Settings window is displayed.

  2. Check settings in the Real-time Scan Settings window.

    If a scan policy parameter is set incorrectly or is tampered with, adjust it.

  3. Click Apply to All Clients.

    The message "Configuration changes have been applied." is displayed.

  4. Click Close.

Configuring the Scheduled Scan Policy

If scheduled scan is enabled (the Enable virus/malware scan check box is selected in the Scheduled Scan Settings window), the OfficeScan client automatically runs a scan at the scheduled time.

It is recommended that scheduled scans be run when service traffic is low.

The operation procedure is as follows:

  1. Choose Agents > Agent Management > Settings > Scan Settings > Scheduled Scan Settings.

    The Scheduled Scan Settings window is displayed.

  2. Check settings in the Scheduled Scan Settings window.

    If a scan policy parameter is set incorrectly or is tampered with, adjust it.

  3. Click Apply to All Clients.

    The message "Configuration changes have been applied." is displayed.

  4. Click Close.

Configuring the Immediate Scan Policy

On the OfficeScan Web Console, users can remotely run an immediate scan on the OfficeScan client.

The operation procedure is as follows:

  1. Choose Agents > Agent Management > Settings > Scan Settings > Scan Now Settings.

    The Scan Now Settings window is displayed.

  2. Check settings in the Scan Now Settings window.

    If a scan policy parameter is set incorrectly or is tampered with, adjust it.

  3. Select the Enable virus/malware scan check box, and click Apply to All Clients.

    The message "Configuration changes have been applied." is displayed.

  4. Click Close.
