Oriented at remote real-time and highly interactive communication, video communication enters the telepresence and convergence era. Currently, video communication faces challenges in product stability, audiovisual quality, and O&M convenience.


Non-real-time communications based on the Short Message Service (SMS) and Instant Messaging (IM) is evolving to real-time voice and video communications, constantly improving communications efficiency and interaction. Video communications is the most efficient approach to remote communications, providing enterprises with real-time "face-to-face" communications services containing voice, video, and data functions.

Development history of video communications:

  • From Standard Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD): 1080p video and wideband stereo audio.
  • From HD to telepresence and converged videoconferencing: Users can obtain panoramic, 4K x 2K video images and an interactive experience that converging data collaboration, and video features.

It is predicted that 40% of enterprises will choose HD videoconferencing to enable internal video communications.

Challenges and Requirements

The building of a video communications system is influenced by the following challenges:

  • The network bandwidth is insufficient.
  • Low cost-effectiveness: high investment cost, low return on investment
  • Difficulties in deployment and integration
  • User interface that is not friendly, making O&M problematic
  • Product security issues
  • Poor video experience

To address the preceding challenges, a video communications system with a focus on the end-to-end user experience is required.
