Module Failure(Vmware Virtualization)

Module Failure(Vmware Virtualization)

Symptom

  • ALM-1003 Module Fault is displayed in the Browse Alarms window of the CGP.
  • In the Module Management window, the Module State of the module on the CGP or another managed element (ME) is Fault.
  • In the MML Command - CGP window, run DSP MODULE to query the status of the module. The command output indicates that the Availability state is Faulty or NULL.

Possible Causes

For details, see Possible Causes for ALM-1003 Module Fault.

Fault Diagnosis

  • Operations, such as resetting and switchover, are performed on the module. After the operations are complete, check whether the module recovers from the failure. If the module recovers from the failure, no further action is required. If the module still fails, rectify the faults by following the handling procedure.
  • The module exceptionally stops, or the virtual machine (VM) running the module is faulty.

Procedure

Check whether operations have been performed on the faulty module.

    1. Check whether ALM-1003 Module Fault is displayed in the Browse Alarms window.

      • Yes: Go to 2.
      • No: Go to 8.

    2. In the MML Command - CGP window, run LST OPTLOG to query the operation logs for the ME with the ID 0.
    3. Check the operation logs to determine whether STP VM, STP MODULE or STP ME has been executed.

      • Yes: Go to 4.
      • No: Go to 5.

    4. In the MML Command - CGP window, run STR VM, STR MODULE or STR ME to start the module or the ME or VM where the module resides. Wait 5 minutes and check whether ALM-1003 Module Fault is cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 5.

    5. Check the operation logs to determine whether operations, such as resetting or switchover, have been performed on the faulty module or the VM.

      • Yes: 6.
      • No: Go to 7.

    6. Wait until the operations are complete. Then, check whether ALM-1003 Module Fault is cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 7.

    7. Rectify the fault by following the procedure for handling ALM-1003 Module Fault. Then, check whether the module recovers from failure.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 8.

Check whether the module or the VM running the module is faulty.

    1. Check whether ALM-6402 File Loading Failure is displayed in the Browse Alarms window.

      • Yes: Go to 9.
      • No: Go to 10.

    2. Rectify the fault by following the procedure for handling ALM-6402 File Loading Failure. Then, check whether the module recovers from failure.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 11.

    3. Run RST MODULE to reset the active arbitration PMU module of the faulty module. Wait 1 minute and run DSP MODULE in the MML Command - CGP window to check whether the Availability state of the original faulty module is Normal.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 11.

    Collect fault information.

    1. Use the Information Collection Tool to collect information about Common fault analysis scenario.
    2. Contact Huawei technical support engineers.
