Built-in DNS Fault

Built-in DNS Fault

Symptom

The embedded DNS of the USM is faulty. The DNS resolution fails, or the resolved address is incorrect.

Possible Causes

  • The naming authority pointer (NAPTR) is incorrectly configured.

  • The SRV record is incorrectly configured.

  • The resource record (DNSRSC) is incorrectly configured.

Troubleshooting Method

Troubleshooting procedure: Orderly check the configuration information of the NAPTR, SRV record, and DNSRSC.

Procedure

Check the configuration information of the NAPTR.

  1. Check whether the domain name to be resolved is correctly configured with the NAPTR.

    Run LST DNSNAPTR to check whether the Domain Name parameter in the returned result contains a domain name to be resolved. If the record exists, check whether the Replacement parameter is correct. For example, if the domain name to be resolved is scscf-0.home1.com, the value of the Replacement parameter should be _sip._udp.scscf-0.home1.com.

    %%LST DNSNAPTR:;%%
    RETCODE = 0  Operation succeeded

    The result is as follows:
    -------------------------
     NAPTR Record ID Domain Order Prefer Flag Service Regular Expression Replacement

     0                scscf-0.home1.com  0       0       S       SIP+D2U  NULL                _sip._udp.scscf-0.home1.com
     1                scscf-1.home1.com  0       0       S       SIP+D2U  NULL                _sip._udp.scscf-1.home1.com
    (Number of results = 2)

    ---    END
    • If the configuration is correct, go to 2.

    • If the configuration is incorrect, run MOD DNSNAPTR to modify the parameter. Then go to 2.

    • If the parameter is not configured, configure the embedded DNS according to Configuring Data for Interworking with Embedded DNS. No further action is required.

  2. Check whether the SRV record of the DNS service record is correctly configured.

    Run LST DNSSRVP to check the record in the returned result. Check whether the Domain Name parameter (Replacement in 1) is configured. If the parameter is configured, check whether Port and Target parameters are correctly configured.

    %%LST DNSSRVP:;%%
    RETCODE = 0  Operation succeeded

    The result is as follows:
    -------------------------
    SRV Record ID  =  0
           Domain  =  _sip._udp.scscf-0.home1.com
         Priority  =  0
           Weight  =  0
             Port  =  5060
           Target  =  scscf-0.home1.com
    (Number of results = 1)

    ---    END
    • If the configuration is correct, go to 3.

    • If the configuration is incorrect, run MOD DNSSRVP to modify the parameter. Then go to 3.

    • If the parameter is not configured, run ADD DNSSRVP to configure the SRV record information. Then go to 3.

  3. Check whether the DNSRSC is correctly configured.

    Run LST DNSRSC to check the record in the returned result. Check whether the Domain parameter (Target in 2.) is configured. If the parameter is configured, check the IP Address parameter is correctly configured. For example, if the IP address of scscf-0.home1.com is configured as 192.168.1.4, instead of the planned IP address 192.168.1.5, the IP address is incorrectly configured.

    %%LST DNSRSC:;%%
    RETCODE = 0  Operation succeeded

    The result is as follows:
    -------------------------
                Domain  =  scscf-0.home1.com
          Address type  =  IPV4
            IP Address  =  192.168.1.4
    (Number of results = 1)

    ---    END
    • If the configuration is incorrect, run RMV DNSRSC to remove the DNSRSC information and then run ADD DNSRSC to add the correct information.

    • If the parameter is not configured, run ADD DNSRSC to configure the DNSRSC information.
