An Error Message Is Displayed When the GaussDB Is Installed

An error message is displayed when the GaussDB is installed: Install failed, please check error information in /var/log/gaussdbinstall.log.

Possible Cause

  • The installation path contains space characters, special characters, or Chinese characters.
  • The installation directory /opt/gaussdb contains the data or app directory.
  • The GaussDB has been installed on the server.
  • The port required for installing the GaussDB has been occupied.

View the error information in the gaussdbinstall.log file mentioned in the error message to find the possible cause.

  • If out of bounds is found in the log file (possible cause 1), place the installation package in a valid directory. The /home directory is recommended.
  • If init data failed is found in the log file (possible cause 2), check whether the installation directory contains the data or app directory. If yes, delete the data or app directory.
  • If gaussdb has been installed is found in the log file (possible cause 3), determine whether to uninstall the GaussDB based on the site requirements.
  • If the required port has been occupied (possible cause 4), rectify the fault using either of the following methods:
    • Method 1: Change the value of the GaussDBPort field in the configuration file to an idle port.
    • Method 2: Run the netstat -ano command to find the process that occupies the required port and determine whether to kill the process. On Linux, you also need to check whether the /tmp directory contains the .s.PGSQL.65432 and .s.PGSQL.65432.lock files. Here, 65432 indicates the required port number. If the directory contains the files, delete them.
