Data Backup Failure(CGP Virtualization)

Symptom

  • Data backup to the local disk by running BKP SYS in the MML Command - CGP window fails. The system displays a message indicating that the free disk space is insufficient.
  • Data backup to a network directory by running BKP SYS in the MML Command - CGP window fails. The system displays a message indicating that the free disk space is insufficient.
  • Data backup to a network directory by running BKP SYS in the MML Command - CGP window fails. The system displays a message indicating that connecting to the backup server fails.
  • Data backup to a network directory by running BKP SYS in the MML Command - CGP window fails. The system displays a message indicating that uploading data to the backup server fails.

Possible Causes

  • The free disk space of the OMU virtual machine (VM) is insufficient.
  • Links to the backup server are faulty or the FTP service is faulty.
  • Uploading data to the backup server fails.

Fault Diagnosis

  • Check whether the free disk space of the OMU is insufficient. If yes, free the disk space to meet the requirements of data backup.
  • Check whether links to the backup server are faulty. If yes, rectify the fault with the links to the backup server.
  • Check whether the FTP service is faulty. If yes, restore the FTP service.
  • Check whether the backup directory permission is incorrectly configured or the free space on the directory is insufficient. If yes, correctly configure the directory permission or free directory space to meet the requirements.

Procedure

    Confirm the causes

    1. Determine the operation according to the backup type:

      • LOCAL(Local disk): Go to 2.
      • NET(Network disk): Go to 6.

    The process of LOCAL(Local disk) backup failure

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure of ALM-1009 Free Storage Space Insufficient in the Alarm Help. In the MML Command - CGP window, run BKP SYS with Backup type set to LOCAL(Local disk) and Backup content set to ALL (database and files), to implement full system data backup. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 3.

    2. Run BKP SYS with Backup type set to LOCAL(Local disk) and Backup content set to ALL (database and files), to implement full system data backup. Check whether the system displays a message, indicating that the free disk space is insufficient.

      • Yes: Go to 4.
      • No: Go to 23.

    3. Delete files in certain directories. On the main interface of HUAWEI Operation & Maintenance System, choose Maintenance > File Transfer Service. The File Transfer Service interface is displayed. Back up the files in the directories such as Software package(auto loading), License file, and ISO file.
    4. Then, delete the files in the directories. After the files are deleted, run BKP SYS with Backup type set to LOCAL(Local disk) and Backup content set to ALL (database and files) in the MML Command - CGP window, to implement full system data backup. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 23.

    The process of NET(Network disk) backup failure

    1. Check the error info of BKP SYS in the MML Command - CGP window, perform the following operations:

      • The local disk space is insufficient: Go to 7.
      • Logging in to the backup server fails: Go to 10.
      • Uploading files to the backup server fails: Go to 20.

    The local disk space is insufficient

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure of ALM-9605 Virtual Machine Free Storage Space Insufficient in the Alarm Help. In the MML Command - CGP window, run BKP SYS with Backup type set to NET(Network disk) (backup server-related parameters are specified according to the backup server configuration), to back up data to a network directory. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 8.

    2. Delete files in certain directories. On the main interface of HUAWEI Operation & Maintenance System, choose Maintenance > File Transfer Service. The File Transfer Service interface is displayed. Back up the files in the directories such as Software package(auto loading), License file, and ISO file.
    3. Then, delete the files in the directories.     Logging in to the backup server fails

    1. Check whether the OMU normally interworks with the specified backup server.

      • Yes: Go to 12.
      • No: Go to 11.

    2. Restore the connection between the OMU and the specified backup server.
    3. Check whether the backup server port is enabled on the firewall.

      • Yes: Go to 14.
      • No: Go to 13.

    4. Enable the backup server port on the firewall according to the software usage of firewall on the backup server and OMU.
    5. Run BKP SYS with Backup type set to NET(Network disk) (backup server-related parameters are specified according to the backup server configuration) in the MML Command - CGP window, to back up data to a network directory. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 15.

    6. Check whether the FTP service is normally running on the backup server according to the software usage of ftp server.

      • Yes: Go to 17.
      • No: Go to 16.

    7. Contact maintenance engineers of the backup server to rectify the fault.
    8. Check whether the parameters such as Protocol type, FTP server IP address, FTP port number, FTP user name, and FTP password are correctly configured for the backup server. If not, reconfigure the parameters, and run BKP SYS with Backup type set to NET(Network disk) (backup server-related parameters are specified according to the backup server configuration) in the MML Command - CGP window. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 18.

    9. Check whether ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources is generated.

      • Yes: rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure of ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources, go to 19.
      • No: Go to 19.

    10. After the fault is rectified, run BKP SYS with Backup type set to NET(Network disk) (backup server-related parameters are specified according to the backup server configuration) in the MML Command - CGP window, to back up data to a network directory. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 23.

    Uploading files to the backup server fails

    1. Contact maintenance engineers of the backup server to check whether a fault (local disk insufficiency, incorrect configuration of FTP directory permission, or FTP service fault) occurs on the backup server.

      • Yes: Go to 21.
      • No: Go to 23.

    2. Contact maintenance engineers of the backup server to rectify the fault.
    3. Run BKP SYS with Backup type set to NET(Network disk) (backup server-related parameters are specified according to the backup server configuration) in the MML Command - CGP window, to back up data to a network directory. Check whether the data backup is successful.

      • Yes: The handling procedure is complete.
      • No: Go to 23.
