SIP Trunk Interworking Fault

SIP Trunk Interworking Fault

Symptom

On the sysPortal home page, the SIP trunk interworking status is displayed as abnormal.

Possible Causes

  • The data configuration is incorrect.
  • The network is faulty.
  • The peer device does not support OPTION heartbeat detection.

Troubleshooting Method

Generally, the SIP trunk is in UDP mode that is connectionless. To ensure security, Huawei devices use OPTION messages to detect trunk status.

  • When trunk heartbeat detection is disabled, the trunk status is normal.
  • When the trunk is faulty, you can trace SIP messages to confirm the incorrect configuration.

Procedure

  1. Check the configuration.
    • Log in to the sysPortal and access the SIP trunk configuration page.
    • Only one USM local IP address exists. Therefore, focus on verifying that the remote IP address and port number are the same as the peer end SIP trunk IP address and port number that are actually used.
  2. Trace SIP messages.

Enable SIP message tracing for the USM NE. (By default, OPTION messages are not traced. You need to enable tracing for OPTION messages.) Check whether the destination IP address is correct for OPTION messages and check whether the peer device returns the 200 response.

    • Yes: No further action is required.
    • No: Go to 3.
  3. Check the network status.

Log in to the HUAWEI Operation & Maintenance System and run the MML command PING under NE 0 by setting Local IPv4 address to the signaling IP address of the USM and Peer IPv4 address to the destination IP address.

If the following information is displayed, the destination IP address is reachable:

    %%PING: SRN=0, SN=0, IPTYPE=IPV4, LOCALIP4="10.39.12.131", PEERIP4="10.24.112.1", DATATYPE=DYNAMICLEN;%%
    RETCODE = 0  Operation succeeded

The summary result is as follows
    --------------------------------
              Sent packets = 5
          Received packets = 5
         Packet loss ratio = 0
    Maximum round time(ms) = 12
    Minimum round time(ms) = 1
    Average round time(ms) = 4
    (Number of results = 1)

If the following information is displayed, the destination IP address is unreachable:

    %%PING: SRN=0, SN=0, IPTYPE=IPV4, LOCALIP4="10.39.12.131", PEERIP4="10.24.112.10", DATATYPE=DYNAMICLEN;%%
    RETCODE = 0  Operation succeeded

The summary result is as follows
    --------------------------------
              Sent packets = 5
          Received packets = 0
         Packet loss ratio = 100
    Maximum round time(ms) = NULL
    Minimum round time(ms) = NULL
    Average round time(ms) = NULL
    (Number of results = 1)
  4. Check whether the peer device supports OPTION heartbeat detection. If no, disable the trunk heartbeat function on the SIP trunk configuration page.
