Active/Standby OMU Switchover Failure

Symptom

OMU switchover fails in the following conditions:
  • ALM-8605 Swap Failure of the OMU HA System is displayed on the OMU client.
  • Running SWP OMU in the MML Command - CGP window of the client fails.

Possible Causes

The probable causes of the fault are as follows:

  • Certain resources on the standby OMU are faulty.
  • Activation failure records exist on the standby OMU.
  • Data is being synchronized from the active OMU to the standby OMU.
  • Database synchronization is not completed.
  • The OMU status is incorrect.
  • The workspaces of the active and standby OMUs are inconsistent.
  • The versions of the active and standby OMUs are inconsistent.

Fault Diagnosis

Rectify the fault based on the fault cause.

Procedure

    Rectify the fault based on the fault cause.

    1. Check whether ALM-8605 Swap Failure of the OMU HA System is generated.

      • Yes: Go to 2.
      • No: Go to 3.

    2. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure of ALM-8605 Swap Failure of the OMU HA System. Then, check whether the fault has been rectified.

      • Yes: 13
      • No: Go to 14.

    3. Perform operations based on the output of SWP OMU command.

      • If the system displays that data is being synchronized, go to 4.
      • If the system displays that the workspaces of the active and standby OMUs are inconsistent, go to 4.
      • If the system displays that the versions of the active and standby OMUs are inconsistent, go to 4.
      • If the system displays that the command cannot be executed under the current OMU status, go to 8.
      • If the system displays that the activation failure records exist, go to 9.
      • If the system displays that certain resources failed to run properly, go to 9.
      • If the system displays that the hardware resource is faulty, go to 9.
      • If the system displays that the software is faulty, go to 14.
      • If the system displays other outputs, go to 14.

    4. Run LST SYNC to check the status of data synchronization.
    5. Check whether the values of Progress for the File and Database records are 100%.

      • Yes: Go to 6.
      • No: Go to 4.

    6. Check whether the output indicates that the information about the activated workspace or version are inconsistent on the active and standby OMUs.

      • Yes: Go to 7.
      • No: Go to 14.

    7. Run RST SYNC to re-initialize the synchronization data. Then, check whether the command is successfully executed.

      • Yes: Go to 12.
      • No: Go to 14.

    8. After about 30 seconds, run DSP OMU to check whether one OMU is in the active state and the other is in the standby state and whether no resource is in Unknown state.

      • Yes: Go to 12.
      • No: Go to 14.
      NOTE:
      The OMUs are not in stable active/standby state, or certain resources are in Unknown state. Therefore, wait until the status of the OMUs turns to stable.

    9. Check whether ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources is generated.

      • Yes: Go to 10.
      • No: Go to 11.

    10. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure of ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources. Then, check whether the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: Go to 11.
      • No: Go to 14.

    11. On the client, run CLR FAILFLG to clear the flag of a failure in activating resources on the OMU.
    12. Run SWP OMU again, and check whether the command is successfully executed.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 14.

    13. Clear the alarm manually. No further action is required.

    Collect relevant information, and contact technical support engineers.

    1. Use the Information Collection Tool to collect items in Common fault analysis scenario.
    2. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to rectify the fault.
