Discontinuous Time Segments of Measurement Results(CGPVirtualization)

Symptom

The reported time segments of the measurement results are discontinuous.

Possible Causes

The probable causes of the fault are as follows:
  • A certain virtual machine (VM) is faulty.
  • A certain host process is faulty.
  • A certain host process is restarted.
  • A process switchover occurs on the host.
  • The performance measurement process is faulty.
  • An active/standby OMU switchover occurs.
  • The time zone or daylight saving time (DST) is set.
  • The disk space of the OMU is full.
  • The CPU of the OMU is overloaded.

Fault Diagnosis

The time of the measurement result displayed on the Web client of the performance management system is determined by the time when the host reports the measurement result and the settings of the time zone and DST.

If the reported time segments of the measurement results are discontinuous, check whether the system time or time zone and DST has changed, whether the host modules and the performance measurement process are operating properly, and whether an active/standby switchover has occurred.

In addition, for an ordinary measurement task, if certain modules fail to report the results within the specified period, the system displays the measurement results 7 minutes later, which is another cause of the fault.

Procedure

    Check the discontinuous reported time segment of the measurement results.

    1. On the measurement result page of the performance management system, check the start time and end time of the measurement result with discontinuous time segment.
    1. In the MML Command - CGP window of the client, run LST OPTLOG to query operation logs. In the command output, check whether the time zone and DST is set by running SET TZ or whether the system time is changed by running SET TIME before or after the discontinuous time segments are generated.

      NOTE:
      It is normal that the reported time segments of the measurement results are discontinuous after the change of the time zone and DST or system time.
      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 3.

    2. Check whether the reported time segment of the discontinuous measurement result is added with the time zone or DST information.

      NOTE:
      If yes, the time zone or DST information is included after the date and time. For example, the time information contains only the time zone information +08:00, contains only the DST information +00:30 DST, or contains the time zone and DST information +08:30 DST.
      • Yes: Go to 4.
      • No: Go to 5.

    3. Subtract the time zone offset and DST offset from the start time of the measurement period, and then check whether the difference between the start time before and after the subtraction equals a measurement period.

      It is a normal phenomenon that the reported time segments of the measurement results are discontinuous due to the DST setting.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 5.

    Check whether the discontinuous reported time segment is caused by measurement result timeout.

    1. On the performance management system, query the performance measurement results that are generated 7 minutes later than the last measurement result. Then, check whether an unreliable result is generated during the missed measurement time segment.

    Check whether a service module is faulty.

    1. Check whether ALM-1003 Module Fault is generated before the begin time and after the end time in the period during which the measurement results with discontinuous time segments are generated.

      • Yes: Go to 7.
      • No: Go to 8.

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-1003 Module Fault Alarm Help. Then, check whether the measurement result is reliable, starting from the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 8.

    Check whether a board is faulty.

    1. In the Browse Alarms window of the CGP on the client, check whether ALM-2001 Board Fault is generated before the begin time and after the end time in the period during which the measurement results with discontinuous time segments are generated.

      • Yes: Go to 9.
      • No: Go to 10.

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-2001 Board Fault Alarm Help. Then, check whether the reported time segments of the measurement results are continuous, starting from the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 10.

    Check whether the performance measurement process is faulty.

    1. Check whether ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources is generated, and Resource Name indicated by the alarm is pm.

      • Yes: Go to 11.
      • No: Go to 12.

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-8600 Abnormal OMU Resources alarm help. Then, check whether the measurement result is normal, starting from the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 12.

    Check whether an active/standby OMU switchover occurs.

    1. Check whether ALM-8601 Swap of the OMU HA System is generated before the begin time and after the end time in the period during which the measurement results with discontinuous time segments are generated.

      • Yes: Go to 13.
      • No: Go to 14.

    2. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-8601 Swap of the OMU HA System alarm help. Then, check whether the measurement result is normal, starting from the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 14.

    Check whether the disk space of the OMU is full.

    1. Check whether ALM-1009 Free Storage Space Insufficient is generated before the begin time and after the end time in the period during which the measurement results with discontinuous time segments are generated.

      • Yes: Go to 15.
      • No: Go to 16.

    2. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-1009 Free Storage Space Insufficient alarm help. Then, check whether the measurement result is normal in the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 16.

    Check whether the CPU of the OMU is overloaded.

    1. In the MML Command - CGP window of the client, run DSP CPU to check the CPU usage and whether ALM-1005 Board CPU Overload is generated.

      • Yes: Go to 17.
      • No: Go to 18.

    1. Rectify the fault by referring to the handling procedure in the ALM-1005 Board CPU Overload alarm help. Then, check whether the measurement result is normal, starting from the next measurement period after the alarm has been cleared.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 18.

    Collect the log information, and contact technical support engineers.

    1. Use the Information Collection Tool to collect items in Common fault analysis scenario and item PCDR Bill in Custom Scenario.
    2. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to rectify the fault.
