VM Faults

Symptom

  • In the Browse Alarms window of the LMT or on the Active Alarms page on the OMU Web portal, ALM-9507 Virtual Machine Fault is present. You can choose Maintenance > Active Alarms on the OMU Web portal to proceed to the Active Alarms page.
  • In the MML Command - CGP or MML Command - ME window, DSP VM is run. The Availability state for a VM in the command output is Fault, Shut off, or Unknown, as illustrated in Figure 2-1.
Figure 2-1 DSP VM command output

Possible Causes

  • The host running the VM is faulty.

  • The virtualization software on the host running the VM is faulty.

  • The resources, such as CPUs, on the host running the VM are insufficient.
  • The VM on the host is different from configured.
  • STP VM was run for the VM.

  • The VM accidentally exited or stopped during its running.

  • RST SERVER or POF SERVER was run for the host running the VM.

  • The system was importing the image file to a VM for running applications independent of CGP management.

Fault Diagnosis

  1. Check whether ALM-9507 Virtual Machine Fault persists.
  2. Check whether ALM-9515 Communication Between OMU and Hypervisor Failed persists.
  3. Check whether ALM-9518 VM Configuration Inconsistent Between Host and OMU persists.

Procedure

    Check whether ALM-9507 is present.

    1. Check whether ALM-9507 Virtual Machine Fault is present in the Browse Alarms window of the LMT or on the Active Alarms page on the OMU Web portal.

      • Yes: Go to 2.
      • No: Go to 3.

    2. Rectify the fault by following the procedure for handling ALM-9507 Virtual Machine Fault. Check whether this issue is resolved.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 3.

    Check whether ALM-9515 is present.

    1. Check whether ALM-9515 Communication Between OMU and Hypervisor Failed is present in the Browse Alarms window of the LMT or on the Active Alarms page on the OMU Web portal.

      • Yes: Go to 4.
      • No: Go to 5.

    2. Rectify the fault by following the procedure for handling ALM-9515 Communication Between OMU and Hypervisor Failed. Check whether this issue is resolved.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 5.

    Check whether ALM-9518 is present.

    1. Check whether ALM-9518 VM Configuration Inconsistent Between Host and OMU is present in the Browse Alarms window of the LMT or on the Active Alarms page on the OMU Web portal.

      • Yes: Go to 6.
      • No: Go to 7.

    2. Rectify the fault by following the procedure for handling ALM-9518 VM Configuration Inconsistent Between Host and OMU. Check whether this issue is resolved.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 7.
