Failure in Starting or Removing the Client through JWS

Symptom

NOTE:

The following operations and snap-shots are based on JRE1.6.

  • Starting or removing the JWS client by choosing Start > All Programs > HUAWEI Operation & Maintenance System fails, as shown in Figure 6-11.

  • After the JWS client is installed, the shortcut is not available from the Start menu.

  • Installing the JWS by clicking the installation link on the installation interface fails, as shown in Figure 6-12.

Possible Causes

  • The JWS stores invalid data in the cache.
  • During the first installation, creating a shortcut is not selected.
  • The JNLP file is not correctly associated with the JAVAWS application.

Fault Diagnosis

Rectify the fault.

Procedure

    NOTE:
    • If the OMU floating IP address is an IPv4 address, enter https://floating IP address/jws/ (for example, https://172.31.8.8/jws/) in the address box of your browser.
    • If the OMU floating IP address is an IPv6 address, enter https://[floating IP address]:port/jws/ (for example, https://[2001:db8:1::1]:9443/jws/) in the address box of your browser. The IPv6 floating IP address must be included in square brackets.
    • This section takes an IPv4 floating address as an example.

    1. Rectify the fault based on the error message returned during the operation:

      • If the starting or removing the JWS client by choosing Start > All Programs > HUAWEI Operation & Maintenance System fails, go to 2.
      • If the shortcut is not available from the Start menu after the JWS is installed, go to 2.
      • If installing the JWS by clicking the installation link on the installation interface fails, go to 11.

    1. Choose Start > Run. In the Run dialog box, type javaws -viewer, and press Enter. The Java Applet Cache Viewer window is displayed.
    1. In the Java Applet Cache Viewer window, select applications related to the LMT and click Remove Selected Entries, as shown in Figure 6-13.

    1. Start browser and type https://Floating IP address/jws/ (for example, https://172.31.8.8/jws/). Then, install the new version of the client through the JWS and check whether the installation is successful.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 5.

    1. Close the Java Applet Cache Viewer window. In the Java Control Panel window, click Settings to open the Temporary Files Settings window, as shown in Figure 6-14.

    1. In the Temporary Files Settings window, click Delete Files, as shown in Figure 6-15.

    1. Select all items in the dialog box and click OK to delete all cache files. See Figure 6-16.

    1. Start browser and type http://Floating IP address/jws/ (for example, http://172.31.8.8/jws/). Then, install the new version of the client through the JWS and check whether the installation is successful.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 9.

    1. In the Temporary Files Settings window, check the directory where the temporary files are stored. Double-click My Computer and switch to the directory to delete all temporary files in the directory, as shown in Figure 6-17.

    1. Start browser and type http://Floating IP address/jws/ (for example, http://172.31.8.8/jws/). Then, install the new version of the client through the JWS and check whether the installation is successful.

      • Yes: No further action is required.
      • No: Go to 16.

    1. Right-click Install. The shortcut menu is displayed, as shown in Figure 6-18.

    1. Choose Save Target As... from the shortcut menu. In the Save As dialog box, select a directory, and click Save.
    1. Right-click the saved file in the directory, and choose Open With in the shortcut menu. The Open With dialog box displayed, as shown in Figure 6-19.

    1. Select the Java(TM) web Start Launcher application and select Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. Then, click OK to install the JWS. Check whether the installation is successful.

      • Yes: Go to 15.
      • No: Go to 16.

    1. Delete the downloaded JNLP file. No further action is required.
    1. Contact Huawei technical support engineers to rectify the fault.
