A SiteCall Fails to Be Initiated Because of Insufficient MCU Resources

A SiteCall Fails to Be Initiated Because of Insufficient MCU Resources

Symptom

A conference template has been defined on the endpoint web interface. Different types of conference sites (including H.323 and SIP conference sites) that belong to different service areas have been added. Conference parameters use their default values. On the SMC2.0 network with a hybrid of ViewPoint 8000 and VP9000 series MCUs, when you use SiteCall to initiate a conference, the message "MCU resources insufficient." is displayed on an endpoint.

Possible Causes

The possible causes are as follows:

  • The GK that the endpoint registers with is different from the GK that the SMC2.0/RM connects to.
  • No MCU is available in the service area to which a site in the SiteCall site list belongs.
  • The service area does not have sufficient resources, including MCU port resources, adaptation resources, continuous presence resources, and rate adaptation resources.
  • The number of ports in the MCU's license is insufficient.

Procedure

  1. Check whether the GK that the endpoint registers with is the same as the GK that the SMC2.0/RM connects to.

If the GKs are the same, the environment setting is correct. If they do not register with the same GK, change the GK address on the endpoint as follows:

    • ViewPoint 9000 series endpoint: Choose System Settings > Protocol > H.323/SIP Settings > GK address.
    • TE series endpoint: Choose System Settings > Network > H.323/SIP Settings > GK address.
    • ViewPoint 8000 series endpoint: Choose System Settings > H.323 Settings > GK address.

  2. Ensure that the service area that each conference site belongs to has available MCUs.
  3. On the MCU web interface, ensure that the MCU that each service area belongs to has sufficient resources, including MCU port resources, adaptation resources, continuous presence resources, and rate adaptation resources.
  4. Log in to the MCU web interface, choose Settings > System Status > License, and check the MCU license information. Specifically, check whether the number of ports, number of panes in continuous presence, and number of adaptation resources in the license are sufficient.

Summary

When you use a ViewPoint 8000 series MCU to make a SiteCall, ensure that the MCU has sufficient resources. When you use a VP9000 series MCU to make a SiteCall, ensure that the MCU has sufficient ports.
