Replacing a DC Power Module of NIP6830

This section describes the procedure for replacing the power module of the NIP6830.

Context

  • Before replacing a power module, switch off the corresponding air circuit breaker on the power distribution cabinet. This switches off the power module to be replaced. In addition, switch off the power module to be replaced.

  • The NIP6830 has two power modules. Do not power off the other during the process of removing one power module. Figure 3-26 shows the PEM.

Tool

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves

  • Phillips screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Check the location of the power module to be replaced.

    Before pulling out a power module that is to be replaced, check its location, that is, the cabinet and chassis where the power module resides, and label the power module.

  2. Switch off the corresponding air circuit breaker on the power distribution cabinet. This switches off the power module to be replaced. In addition, switch off the power module to be replaced.
  3. Put on the ESD wrist strap and connect the grounding terminal to the ESD jack on the rack.
  4. Remove the cables from the power module to be replaced, as shown in Figure 3-27 (1).
  5. Using the Phillips screwdriver, loosen the captive screws on both sides of the power module, as shown in Figure 3-27 (2).
  6. Turn the ejector levers on the panel of the power module outward and upward. When the ejector levers and the panel form a 45-degree angle, the power module is removed from the backplane, as shown in Figure 3-27 (3).
  7. Holding both sides of the power module, pull the power module out of the chassis, as shown in Figure 3-27 (4).

  8. Insert the backup power module into the chassis.

    Holding both sides of the power module, insert the module into the guide rail of the slot, as shown in Figure 3-28 (1). Ensure that the power module is in sufficient contact with the backplane of the chassis.

  9. Turn the ejector levers inward and downward with both hands until the power module touches the slot, as shown in Figure 3-28(2).
  10. Using the Phillips screwdriver, fasten the power module to the chassis by screwing the captive screws, as shown in Figure 3-28 (3).
  11. Connect the cables to the power module in the original sequence, as (4) shown in Figure 3-28.

  12. Verify that the new power module is working normally.

    After inserting the power module into the chassis, switch on the air circuit breaker on the power distribution cabinet and then switch on the power module. Then, you can check the new power module in the following ways:

    • Check the RUN indicator on the panel of the power module. If it is green, the power module is working normally.

      Check the ALM indicator on the panel of the power module, If it is red, the power module is not working normally.

    • Run the display device command on the console interface to check the running status of the new power module. If the power module is working normally, the following is displayed:

    The preceding output also indicates that the power module has returned to the normal state. If the power module is not working normally, contact a local Huawei office for technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the power module, collect all tools. If the replaced power module is faulty, fill in the Repair Transmission Sheet and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet to the equipment supplier or the specified repair service provider.
