Replacing the DC PEM of the NIP6860

This section describes the procedure for replacing the DC power module of the NIP6860.

Precautions

  • Before replacing a PEM, power it off by turning off the corresponding air circuit breaker on the power distribution cabinet. The PEM to be replaced is powered off. In addition, you need to switch off the PEM.

  • The NIP6860 has four PEMs, You can power off one PEM during replacement. Figure 3-29 shows the PEM.

Tools

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves

  • Phillips screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Check the location of the PEM to be replaced.

    Before removing the old PEM, check its location, that is, the cabinet and chassis where the PEM resides, and label the PEM.

  2. Put on the ESD wrist strap and connect the grounding terminal to the ESD jack on the chassis.
  3. Turn off the corresponding air circuit breaker on the power distribution cabinet. This turns off the PEM to be replaced. In addition, switch off the PEM.
  4. Remove the cables from the power module to be replaced.
  5. Using the Phillips screwdriver, turn the captive screws on the PEM counter-clockwise to loosen them, as shown in Figure 3-30.
  6. Holding the handle on the PEM with one hand and supporting the PEM with the other hand, slowly pull the PEM vertically out of the chassis, as shown in Figure 3-30.

  7. Insert the new PEM into the chassis.

    Holding the handle on the PEM with one hand and supporting the PEM with the other hand, slowing insert the PEM vertically along the guide rails in the slot until the rear of the PEM properly connects to the backplane. Using the Phillips screwdriver, fasten the PEM to the chassis by turning the captive screws counter-clockwise to tighten them, as shown in Figure 3-31.

  8. Connect the cables to the power module in the original sequence.
  9. Verify that the new PEM is working properly.

    • Check the RUN indicator on the PEM panel. If it is green, the PEM is working normally.

      Check the ALM indicator on the PEM panel. If it is red, the PEM is not working normally.

    • Run the display device command on the console interface to check the running status of the new PEM. The PEM is working normally if the PEM statuses displayed match the following bold characters:

    The preceding command output indicates that the new PEM is normal. If the new PEM does not work normally, contact a local Huawei office for technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the PEM, collect all tools. If the replaced PEM is faulty, fill in the Repair Transmission Sheet and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet to the equipment supplier or the specified repair service provider.
