Application Scenarios for MLD

As shown in Figure 9-3, hosts receive video on demand (VoD) information in multicast mode. Receivers belong to different organizations form leaf network segments. Each leaf network segment contains one or more receivers.

Host A is a receiver of N1; Host C is a receiver of N2. MLDv1 is configured on Port 1 of Device A that is directly connected to Host A. MLDv2 is configured on Port 1 of Device B and Device C that are directly connected to its respective host. That is, MLDv1 runs on N1; MLDv2 runs on N2. The multicast devices on the same network segment must run MLD of the same version.
