Configuring Status Monitoring for the HA System

Configuring Status Monitoring for the HA System

After the HA system is configured, the condition for triggering HA system failover must be configured. The BIG-IP supports multiple HA triggering conditions, including three major fail-safe modes: system, gateway, and VLAN. If system fail-safe is used, keep the default settings. Usually, VLAN fail-safe is used for status monitoring of the high availability system. After the timeout period expires, failover occurs if the VLAN has no traffic.

  1. Log in to the active BIG-IP system.
  2. Choose System > High Availability from the navigation pane.
  3. Select VLANs from the Fail-safe drop-down list box.
  4. Click Add to add a VLAN fail-safe.
  5. Set parameters as follows:

    VLAN: Select external.

    Timeout: Enter 30.

Action: Select Failover from the Action drop-down list.

Figure 4-1 shows the configuration result.

  6. Click Finished.
  7. The BIG-IP system cannot synchronize this configuration. Therefore, you need to perform Step 2 to Step 6 on the standby node.

Do not set sync vlan to Fail-safe.
