Configuring the Platform

Configuring the Platform

Platform configuration involves the universal attributes of the system, such as the host name, IP address, and system administrator account.

  1. On the WebUI, choose System > Platform.
  2. Set the parameters in Table 3-1 as planned, as shown in Figure 3-7.

    Table 3-1 Configuration items

    Configuration Item

    Management Port

Specifies the IP address, subnet mask, and route of the management network port.

    Host Name

Specifies the host name of the F5 BIG-IP.

    High Availability

If dual hosts are used in redundancy mode, set this parameter to Redundant Pair.

    Unit ID

If dual hosts are used in redundancy mode, set this parameter to different values for the active and standby hosts.

If F5 BIG-IP LTMs are deployed as a two-node cluster, assign different unit IDs to the nodes. Generally, set Unit ID for the active node and standby node to 1 and 2 respectively.

    Time Zone

    Specifies the time zone.

The F5 BIG-IP uses the Linux time zone, which does not provide the Beijing time zone setting in the Chinese time zones. Available options are Asia/Chungking, Asia/Harbin, Asia/Hong_Kong, Asia/Macao, Asia/Shanghai, and Asia/Urumqi. In other areas, you can select a value from the Time Zone drop-down list box.

    Root Account

Specifies the account for entering the command-line mode. The default password is default.

    Admin Account

Specifies the account for managing the Web interface. The default password is admin.

    SSH Access

Specifies whether to allow users to log in to the F5 BIG-IP in SSH mode.

    Figure 3-7 Platform configuration page
    • The password of the root user allows users to access the BIG-IP system using commands.

The password of the root user must meet the following requirements:

      • It must contain 6 to 32 characters.
      • Only uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and digits are allowed.

If the BIG-IP is deployed in a two-node cluster, the passwords of the root and admin users of the active and standby nodes must be the same.

    • The host name is used to identify the BIG-IP system. The host name must comply with the DNS domain name standard. The host part must start with a letter and contain at least two characters. For example:

When two BIG-IP systems are deployed, their host names must be different. Otherwise, the configuration synchronization will fail, which may cause damage to the license.
