Preparations

Preparations

Before installing the BIG-IP system, check the following preparations:

  • Planning of physical connections between components
  • On-demand network segment and IP address planning
    • In a BIG-IP two-node cluster, two external VLAN IP addresses are used as the self IP addresses of the active and standby nodes.
    • In a BIG-IP two-node cluster, three service VLAN IP addresses are assigned for the communication among user VMs, HDC, and WI. Two service IP addresses are used as the self IP addresses of the active and standby nodes, and the last is used as the floating IP address.
    • In a BIG-IP two-node cluster, three service management VLAN IP addresses are assigned for the communication with the VNC self-service O&M platform. Two service IP addresses are used as the self IP addresses of the active and standby nodes, and the last is used as the floating IP address.
    • In a BIG-IP two-node cluster, two synchronization VLAN IP addresses are used as the self IP addresses of the active and standby nodes.
    • Each BIG-IP node requires one management IP address.
    • IP addresses and gateway IP addresses of Https and Http load balancers of WI
  • BIG-IP host names. Ensure that the host names of the active and standby nodes are different.

The floating IP address or self IP address of F5 cannot be used as the virtual server IP address. Although the F5 BIG-IP LTM supports the floating IP address as the virtual server IP address, problems may occur in some scenarios. The self IP address cannot be switched to the other F5 BIG-IP LTM. If the virtual server IP address is set to the self IP address, services are unavailable.
