Modifying the System Clock

Modifying the System Clock

This section describes how to connect to the BIG-IP using the console or SSH to modify the BIG-IP system clock.

  1. Use the SSH client to connect to the management network port of the F5 BIG-IP LTM.
  2. View the system time.

    [root@ZJHZ-PS-MMS3-SW02:Active] config # date
    Thu May 25 16:59:15 CST 2006

  3. If the system clock differs greatly from the current time, run the date command to modify the system clock.

    # date <month><day><hour><minute><year>.<second>

For example, to set 12:00:00 at noon on January 1, 2007, run the following command:

    # date 010112002007.00

  4. Save the time setting to BIOS.

    # hwclock –-systohc
    • A device with a temporary license will encounter license invalidity if the system time is changed.
    • If the standby system is running, the time difference between the active and standby devices must be shorter than 10 minutes. Otherwise, the synchronization between the devices will fail.
    • The system clock is used for the timing of F5 log files.
