Procedure

Configuring the NTP Server

  1. (Optional) If NTP is available on the network, choose System > Configuration > Device:NTP in the navigation pane to configure the NTP server.

Transferring the Certificate and Setting Up the Trust Relationship

  1. Log in to the active BIG-IP system.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose Device Management > Device Trust: Peer List.
  3. Set parameters as follows:

    • Device IP Address: indicates the IP address of the peer device.
    • Administrator Username: indicates the administrator username for logging in to the WebUI of the peer device.
    • Administrator Password: indicates the administrator password for logging in to the Web UI of the peer device.

      NOTE:

      This step needs to be performed only on one BIG-IP device.

Configuring Device Connectivity for the Active and Standby Nodes

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Device Management > Devices > Device List.
  2. Click the name of the local device.
  3. Set parameters as follows:

    • ConfigSync Configuration: IP address for synchronization between two BIG-IP devices. You are advised to use the newly created HA VLAN.

    • Failover Unicast Configuration: IP address of network failover between two BIG-IP devices. You are advised to use the management IP address and port number. In addition, use the network cable to connect the management ports of the two BIG-IP devices and use the HA VLAN.

    • Mirroring Configuration: IP address for mirroring between two BIG-IP devices. You are advised to use the newly created HA VLAN.

Creating a Device Group

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Device Management > Device Groups.
  2. Click Create in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Set the following parameters:

    • Group Type: Select Sync-Failover.
    • Members: Select the active and standby devices.

  4. Click Finished.

Configure Active/Standby Synchronization

  1. In the navigation pane, choose Device Management > Overview.
  2. Select hostname (self).
  3. Select Sync Device to Group, and click Sync. The two devices start configuration synchronization.
  4. Select a device in the HA Status and Name columns separately and start the synchronization.

    • Sync Device to Group: Synchronize the configuration of the local device to the group.
    • Sync Group to Device: Synchronize the group configuration to the local device.

    Do not use the management port IP addresses for synchronization and mirroring. You are advised to use the newly created synchronization VLAN IP address for synchronization.
