ALM-73016 Abnormal CPU Frequency

Description

The system checks the CPU frequency of the host every 15 minutes. This alarm is generated when the system detects that the CPU frequency of the host is greater than the maximum value or is less than the minimum value for five consecutive times. The alarm is automatically cleared when the CPU frequency of the host recovers to the normal range.

  • error_info: provides alarm exception information.
  • host_id: specifies the ID of the host for which the alarm is generated.
  • hostname: specifies the name of the host for which the alarm is generated.
  • HostIP: specifies the IP address of the host for which the alarm is generated.

Impact on the System

  • If the CPU frequency is excessively low, the system performance may severely deteriorate, and service functions may be compromised.
  • If the CPU frequency is excessively high, the CPU may be damaged.

Possible Causes

A fault occurs in the CPU.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the FusionSphere OpenStack web client.

    For details, see Logging In to the FusionSphere OpenStack Web Client (ManageOne Mode).

  2. On the Summary page, obtain the management IP address of the host in the OM IP Address column based on the host ID or host name in the alarm additional information.
  3. Use PuTTY to log in to the host for which the alarm is generated using the management IP address of the host.

    The default user name is fsp. The default password is Huawei@CLOUD8.

    The system supports both password and public-private key pair for identity authentication. If the public-private key pair is used for login authentication, see detailed operations in Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

  4. Run the following command and enter the password of user root to switch to user root:

    su - root

    The default password of user root is Huawei@CLOUD8!.

  5. Run the following commands to query the maximum frequency and minimum frequency of the system:

    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq

    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_min_freq

  6. Run the following command to query the number of CPUs in the /sys/devices/system/cpu directory:

    ls /sys/devices/system/cpu

    Based on the query result, run the following command for each CPU to obtain the frequency of the CPU. For example, run the following command to obtain the frequency of cpu8:

    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu8/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq

  7. Based on the query result, check whether the value of cpuinfo_cur_freq of each CPU is included between the minimum frequency cpuinfo_min_freq and the maximum frequency cpuinfo_max_freq.

    • If yes, go to 9.
    • If no, go to 8.

  8. Check whether the CPU hardware is faulty.

    • If yes, replace the hardware and go to 7 again.
    • If no, go to 9.

  9. Because the frequency may change dynamically, run the following command for at least five times to check whether the frequency of cpuX is included between the minimum frequency and the maximum frequency of the system.

    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq

    • If yes, go to 10.
    • If no, go to 11.

  10. After about 15 to 30 minutes, check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to 11.

  11. Contact technical support for assistance.
