Impact on the System

  • If the target disk is a thin-provisioned one, more backup storage space may be occupied.
  • If the backup image is used for restore, space of the disk provisioned size in the production storage may be occupied.

Possible Causes

The CBT mechanism in the production system does not take effect after the host at the production system restarts after a power failure or a restore job is performed for the protected object.

Procedure

  1. Possible cause 1: The CBT mechanism in the production system does not take effect after the host at the production end restarts after a power failure or a restore job is performed for the protected object.

    1. Log in to the backup server GUI using a browser.

Login address: https://IP address corresponding to the datamover_management_float_ip field:8088

Default account: admin. Default password: Cloud12#$ for installation using HUAWEI CLOUD Stack Deploy, and PXU9@ctuNov17! for manual installation.

    2. Check whether the job details contain the information indicating that CBT fails to be obtained.
      • If yes, 1.c.
      • If no, contact technical support engineers.
    3. Click Protected Env. > VMware and locate the IP address of the protected environment vCenter based on the protected object name.
    4. Log in to vCenter Client and locate the target protected object based on protected object name (Machine_name).
    5. Click Protected Object and choose Snapshot > Snapshot Manager.
    6. Delete all snapshots of the protected object.
    7. Power off the protected object.
    8. Click the Protected Object, and choose Edit settings > Options > General > Configuration.
    9. Set the value of ctkEnabled to false.
    10. Set all scsix:x.ctkEnabled values to false, where scsix:x indicates the ID of the SCSI controller and SCSI device of each disk.
    11. Open the source folder using the datastore file browser and delete all -CTK.VMDK files. Power on the protected object.
    12. Power off the protected object. Set ctkEnabled and all scsix:x.ctkEnabled to true. scsix:x indicates the ID of the SCSI controller and SCSI device of each disk.
    13. Power on the protected object, manually perform full backup for the protected object, view job details, and check whether the fault is rectified.
      • If yes, no further action is required.
      • If no, contact technical support engineers.
